OL98: (CW) ErrMsg The Procedure Entry Point CryptFindOIDInfo Could not be Located in the Dynamic Link Library

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation

SYMPTOMS

During installation of Microsoft Outlook 98 you may get the following error message:

The Procedure entry point CryptFindOIDInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library CRYPT32.dll.
The error may occur more than once during Setup.


CAUSE

You have reinstalled Service Pack 3 (SP-3) and during the install you chose to install an older version of Crypt32.dll.


MORE INFORMATION

Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 will install an older version of Crypt32.dll. During the installation of SP-3, you will be asked if you wish to overwrite the file with an older version. clicking Yes to accept this overwrites the file. To get the correct version of Crypt32.dll into the computer requires that you uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer and then reinstall Outlook. Before proceeding, cancel Setup.

Uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click to select Microsoft Internet Explorer and then click Add/Remove.


  4. Once the program has been remove and the computer restarted, you will be prompted to keep or discard your settings for Internet Explorer, click Yes to keep them.


Internet Explorer will be reinstalled during setup of Outlook in the next section.

Reinstall Outlook

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click to select, Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. Click Rerun Outlook 98 Setup and then click Next.


  5. Click to select the same install point and options that you did in your original installation.


  6. Click to select Reinstall All Components, and then click OK.
