The information in this article applies to:

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

This article describes how to install the Import Lotus cc:Mail Archive folders converter and import the files into Microsoft Outlook.

MORE INFORMATION

The cc:Mail Archive Importer is used to convert Lotus cc:Mail archive files containing e-mail messages to Microsoft Exchange Server folders directly from your desktop.

The cc:Mail Archive Importer administrator runs the Setup program. The administrator may then perform the archive file conversions or may provide users with the cc:Mail Archive Importer program and documentation so they can perform the conversions.

Download the Microsoft Importer for Lotus cc:Mail Archives

To obtain the utility, connect to the following location:

   http://www.microsoft.com/backoffice/downloads/

Installing the Utility

1. Click Download. Answer the questions to complete the wizard and click

   Finish.

2. From the list, locate the closest site to you, and then click ccm.exe.

3. When prompted to "Run from this location" or Save To Disk, click to

   select Save To Disk and then click OK.

4. Verify the file name and location and then click Save. Click OK in
   the Download Complete window. Close the browser.

Extract the Files

1. Open the folder where you saved Ccm.exe and double-click the file to

   start the extraction process.

2. Click to select "When Done Unzipping Run disk1/Setup." This will
   automatically start Setup once the files are extracted.

5. Click Unzip. If a MAPI profile has not been started, you
   will be asked to choose a profile. After choosing the MAPI profile,
   you are prompted to Select an e-mail recipient to send notifications
   of Archived imports; this step is optional.

Import Archived cc:Mail Folders

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to ccMail Archives Importer, and

   then click on the appropriate importer for your system:

   Windows version 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups version 3.11:
   Cconv16.

   Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0:
   CcConverter.

2. If Outlook is not currently open, you will be prompted to choose a
   profile. Click to select the correct profile and then click OK.

3. Click Next and then click Browse to locate the Archived folders file.

4. Click the button next to the Destination Location to select another

   store. Archived cc:Mail Folder files have an extension of cca.

   NOTE: By default, the delivery location is selected as the Destination
   Location. If the default Delivery location is the Mailbox on a Microsoft
   Exchange Server, the Mailbox will be listed as the Destination Location.
   However, if the Profile also has a Personal Folders file, you may choose
   the Personal Folder as the Destination Location.

5. Click to select the CCA file and click Open. The selected archive files
   are displayed.

   If you have incorrectly selected a file to remove it from the list
   click to select it and then click Remove. To remove all archive
   files in the list, click Remove All.

6. Click to select the store for folders and messages on Microsoft Exchange
   Server.

   All cc:Mail archive files will have an associated Microsoft Exchange
   Server folder. These folders are contained within a folder called
   cc:Mail Archives, and will be imported to the location specified in
   the Destination dialog box.

7. When you are finished selecting archive files, click Run.

   A screen displays your administrator's name, as well as the
   organization to which the cc:Mail Archive Importer is licensed.

   The console displays information about the messages as it converts data.
   During the conversion process, e-mail messages are delivered to
   Outlook as though Outlook were running.

8. When conversion is complete, click Back to select additional cc:Mail
   archive files for conversion, or click Next to display the results of
   your conversion.

9. Click Finish to quit the cc:Mail Archive Importer program.

You are now ready to check the cc:Mail Archive Importer log file for errors. After converting your Lotus cc:Mail archive files, you can view converted e-mail using your Outlook client. The Microsoft Outlook folder list will contain a new folder called cc:Mail. Each subfolder of the cc:Mail Archives represents a separate import session.

To Check the Importer Log File

1. Open the log file using a text editor such as Notepad. Your log file

   (Ccconv.l0) is located in the \Windows\Temp directory.

2. Search for the string ERROR. If you find one or more occurrences of
   ERROR, report it to your Mail Server administrator.

   Do not delete the log file if errors are found. Your cc:Mail Archive
   Importer administrator may require the log file to identify and resolve
   the problem.

Lotus cc:Mail Archives

Lotus cc:Mail provides users with the ability to export their cc:Mail messages to a cc:Mail archive format instead of an ASCII format. Exporting messages to the cc:Mail archive format preserves all message components, including attachments. Additionally, when cc:Mail messages are archived, addressing for each message is changed so alternate post offices or cc:Mail remote users can import the files correctly.

Folders and Messages

A Microsoft Exchange Server folder called cc:Mail Archives is created when the cc:Mail Archive Importer runs. A subfolder will be created under the cc:Mail Archives folder for each archive file selected for conversion. The cc:Mail Archive Importer converts messages and places them in the appropriate folder.

User Name Translations

In order to maintain the ability to use mail features such as Reply and Reply To All, user names in the To, Cc, Bcc, and Author fields must be translated when appropriate.

By default the cc:Mail Archive Importer converts cc:Mail names to Microsoft Exchange Server, without translation.

Rich Text

Some cc:Mail rich text features are not converted by the cc:Mail Archive Importer. Items such as fonts and highlighting will not be included in the message structure when messages are converted to Microsoft Exchange Server.
