OL98: (CW) Invalid Page Fault After Installing Internet Explorer 5

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

After installing Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Invalid Page Fault in module unknown.
-or-
Mapisp32 caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll at 0137:bff9a080.


RESOLUTION

Rename Mapi32.dll and reinstall the Outlook Corporate or Workgroup component to correct this error.

Rename Mapi32.dll

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.


  2. Type Mapi32.dll in the Named box.


  3. In Look In, click to select My Computer. Click Find Now.


  4. With the right mouse button, click to select Mapi32.dll from the list.


  5. Click Rename, and type Mapi32.old. Press ENTER to accept the name change.


NOTE: If there are multiple copies of Mapi32.dll, rename them all.

Reinstall the Outlook Corporate or Workgroup Component

  1. If you have recently received an Invalid Page Fault error, restart your computer to clear the memory.


  2. With no programs running, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


  4. In the list of installed programs, click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.


  5. In the Outlook 98 Active Setup Maintenance Wizard, click Add New Components.


  6. Click to select the method of installation you used originally.


  7. Click Yes to allow Active Setup to determine what components are installed on your computer.


  8. In the Mail Components section, click to select Corporate or Workgroup E-mail Service. If the Reinstall Component appears asking if you want to reinstall this component, click Yes, and then click Next.


  9. In the Component Confirmation and Installation section, click to select the location to install from, and click Install Now.



MORE INFORMATION

This problem is most likely to occur if you installed Outlook with Internet Mail Only (IMO) support and then reconfigured it to Outlook Corporate or Workgroup (CW) support. After installing Internet Explorer 5, Outlook (CW) displays an error when starting.
