OL98: (CW) All Mail Accounts Checked for Mail During Scheduled Connection

ID: Q236301

The information in this article applies to:

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you have multiple e-mail accounts configured in a single profile, but select only one account to check, Outlook checks all mail accounts in the profile when you have mail checking scheduled to occur at a specified interval.

RESOLUTION

Create a separate mail profile for each account you want to check and configure Outlook to prompt you for the profile to use.

MORE INFORMATION

When Outlook connects at a scheduled interval, it downloads mail from all the accounts in the mail profile. This occurs even though the accounts are not selected for delivery.

The only way to check individual accounts during a scheduled connection is to configure individual profiles for each mail account.

For more information about setting up mail profiles, click Microsoft Outlook Help on the Help menu, type "Mail Profiles" in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.

After you have created the individual profiles, set Outlook to prompt you for an individual mail profile using the following steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Mail Services tab, click to select Prompt for a profile to be used.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Each time you start Outlook you are prompted to select a profile.
