OL98: (IMO) WinFax Starter Edition Gives SMTP/POP Error On Send

SYMPTOMS

When you send or receive a fax using the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition you may receive the error:

Unable to connect to the server: (Account: 'Symantec WinFax Starter Edition', SMTP Server: '127.0.0.1', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e').

Unable to connect to the server: (Account: 'Symantec WinFax Starter Edition', POP3 Server: '127.0.0.1', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e').


CAUSE

The WinFax Mail Server and modem controller are not loaded or not configured correctly.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Run the Setup Wizard

  1. On the Start menu, point to Find and then click Files Or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type OLFSETUP.EXE, and click Find Now.


  3. When the file name is displayed in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Setup Wizard.


  4. Complete the Setup Wizard.


Start the WinFax Mail Server and Modem Controller

Once the Setup Wizard is complete, manually start the WinFax Mail Server and modem controller. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Find and then click Files Or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type OLFMOD32.EXE, and click Find Now.


  3. When the file name is displayed in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the modem controller.


Verify the File Is Loaded

NOTE: OLFMOD32.EXE does not open any program. To verify the file has been loaded correctly press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

If you see OLFax MOD - <Name of your modem> and Wfxmsrvr in the task list, the file has been loaded correctly.

If you do not see Wfxmsrvr listed, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Find and then click Files or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type WFXMSRVR.EXE, and click Find Now.


  3. When the file name is displayed in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the WinFax Mail Server.


NOTE: By default the files are located in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office.
If after running these steps you are still receiving the error message described in the "Symptoms" section, remove and reinstall the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition.
